Roland has worked extensively in the area of Internet policy. He was the Director of Public Policy for the London Internet Exchange (LINX) for many years, until he became an independent consultant. Roland meets regularly with officials and Parliamentarians on a wide range of Internet related issues and he is often asked to participate in worldwide conferences on Internet and Cybercrime issues.

Home Secretary's Task Force for Child Protection on the Internet - chaired the unsolicited email group, special interests include: police training, public awareness, and industry codes of conduct.
Internet Watch Foundation - former Board Member, Funding Council and Technical Advisory Panel member.
Telecommunications and other Groups : member of ACSP, the Association of Communication Services Providers, on both the NICC and the joint Oftel/Industry working group which created the Telecoms Ombudsman (Otelo).
Government's Emergency Telecoms Committee co-ordinating
